CRAFTS FOR KINDNESS

My name is Tanvi Arora, a current college student and the founder of Crafts for Kindness. After witnessing the impact of COVID-19 on our community, I decided to start this initiative, taking my in-person business selling greeting cards at craft fairs to an online shop. Over the course of three years running this platform, we raised over $3,000 benefitting Connecticut Foodshare and a number of local Avon, CT based nonprofits. I am thankful for the generous support of my local community, friends, and family and my wonderful fellow creators who donated their time, money, and support to make this initiative successful.

I hope to reinvent this initiative again at a future date with a new purpose. But, for now, I am thankful for the support we have received to benefit those that make our community a better place.

Our Beneficiaries

Connecticut Foodshare, our primary beneficiary, is the food bank of Connecticut and a member of the national Feeding America network. In our state, 1 in 8 residents are food insecure; this includes 1 in 7 children. Connecticut Foodshare is dedicated to providing those in need with food through donations from the food industry, local retail stores, farms, and other donors. They distribute this healthy food through a network of food pantries, community kitchens, and meal programs, and even directly to the people where they live at mobile food distribution sites across the state. Approximately $12.50 worth of products on this platform can provide 20 meals to those in need.

In addition to Connecticut Foodshare, Crafts for Kindness also supports a variety of local Avon, CT beneficiaries, which include the Pine Grove Elementary School PTO, the Avon High School PTO, Friends of the Avon Library, and Avon Dollars for Scholars. Organizations like these work hard in our town to make it a better place for all of our residents. We continue to look out for other parts of our town and community to support through our fundraisers.
